This area is located just south of the city centre, in Prague 2 and is within walking distance of the New Town. As legend goes it was the mythical seat of the Premyslian princedom dating back from the 10th century. A relatively tranquil area, it is a popular choice for those interested in historical sites, and who wish to be close to the city centre.
Places to visit: The Capitular Church of SS Peter and Paul was built in the 11th century, but has a more contemporary appearance due to its Gothic remodelling in the 19th century.
The famous Slavin Cemetery is the resting place of many famous artists, including the authors J. Zeyer, J Vrchlicky and the composer, Dvorak.
The Vysehrad gardens were created from the ruins of Vsyehrad fortess, where you can see the Myslbek sculpture.
Visit the TV Tower, which was built between 1985 and 1992. A speedy lift whisks you up, from where you can have an impressive, panoramic view of the city. The black babies crawling over the tower were added by David Cerny.
Famous Monuments: Not far from the Capitular Church of SS Peter and Paul stands The Rotunda of St. Martin, which is the oldest Prague Rotunda.
