Vinorahdy, in Prague 2 is similar to the areas in the heart of Prague, but noticeably less crowded. Located just above Wenceslas Square, it is within walking distance of the Old Town. With an abundance of shops, restaurants and public transport, Vinoradhy is a popular area with expats and other international residents. A very expensive area to live, but tourists may find local restaurant and shop prices a shade cheaper than in Prague 1.

Getting Around:
To get to the heart of Vinohrady, take line A of the metro and get off at Jiřího z Poděbrad. Or, if you prefer a more leisurely journey take the number 11 tram.

Places to visit:
Jiřího z Poděbrad Square bears the name of the Hussite king Jiří z Poděbrad (George of Poděbrady) who was in power in the 15th century. The square is easily recognized by the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of our Lord, which is a unique architectural work built between 1928-1932. The historic Vinohrady Market Hall was built in 1902 and is one of the few remaining historic market halls- take a peek inside and you will find an upmarket shopping centre. Vinohrady Cemetery (Vinohradský hřbitov) is located on the eastern edge of Vinohrady in Prague 10. The cemetery was established in 1885 and many important Czechs are buried there, including painter Jakub Schikaneder, sculptor Otto Gutfreund and the tomb of ex-president Havel is located there too.

Nightlife:
Le Clan nightclub is popular at weekends and often follows the larger clubs in terms of music and mood. Chill out on the huge sofas upstairs, or dance the night away downstairs, anything goes. Martin's Irish Pub offers a great atmosphere and the cheapest Guinness in town.

Gastronomy:
Vinoradhy has many international restaurants and cafés to tempt the weary traveller. U Neklana is a well-established Czech restaurant/bar tucked away amid über-cool Cubist architecture. Good prices and excellent Budvar beer guarantee a loyal clientele. Botanic is an international restaurant serving fine quality dishes at very good prices. Olympos is a superb Greek restaurant, with friendly staff and great food: the seafood is particularly recommended. Kaaba is a new and funky café, and is the perfect spot for indulging in almost sinfully thick hot chocolate, a great selection of teas and coffees plus the obligatory cakes and sweet treats. Enjoy! Harlequin bar is a very eclectic mixture..where else can you combine beers with archery, laser golf and laser karaoke! This bar will surely keep even the most dysfunctional group happy. Mu Café is an altogether more relaxed affair, at weekends DJ's play music and sometimes the crowd will dance, sometimes just preferring to curl up and relax. Limited food menu but good well-priced drinks.
