This area marks the centre of the tourist map of Dublin. Occupying several acres of land, which was once a priory suppressed by Henry VIII. The front of the college is opposite Dame Street, a broad avenue running along the south side of Temple Bar and leading up to Dublin Castle. Pearse Mainland train station is located nearby Trinity College.
Places to visit: Facing Trinity College on College Green is The Bank of Ireland. Built in 1739, this windowless building was the original Parliament Building in Ireland, home to Grattan's parliament. The Arts Centre and museum are located to the rear of Fosters Place.
Trinity College itself has great guided tours, and is a great historical site, as well as the location for several famous films including Educating Rita and The Great Train Robbery.
Famous Monuments: There is a statue of Tom Moore in the middle of College Green. He was one of Ireland's most famous Victorian poets whose works were a staple of Victorian drawing room parties.
Nightlife: The Bridge is a loud and lively late bar, playing all the usual favourites and serving a good range of drinks until the early hours.
Olympia Theatre at 72 Dame Street, is one of the best venues for broad-ranging styles in a large and three-floor venue, perfect for early evening and post-midnight gigs.
Gastronomy: Dame Street has some excellent restaurants, particularly Chinese and Italian, most reasonably priced.
