Tossa de Mar is one of the towns that has better preserved its character on the Costa Brava, it is located on the South part of the Costa Brava and
Tourists from all over the world come to this unique town to enjoy a day of visual pleasure.
Tossa de Mar is also known as the "Flower of the Sea", because of its beauty.
A minute of History: Tossa de Mar has a Roman origin. At the beginning of the 20th century, ruins of the old Roman walls were discovered inside the walled town. Ruins of houses were also discovered in other parts of the city.
The current walls date from the 12th century. There used to be five towers. Only three have been preserved: the Homage Tower, the Entrance Tower and the Jonas Tower. One of the old five towers was demolished in 1917 to construct a new lighthouse.The town's traditional sources of income were the sea activities --fishing and trade-- and the cork industry.
Nowadays tourism is almost the only source of income.
Beaches: Platja Gran is Tossa's main beach, with all kind of services,
is situated right in the town centre. At only few minutes from the center you can also find Platja del Reig and Mar menuda beaches, Es Codolar is
a quiet beach below the walled enceinte.
Shopping: Tossa is essentially a modern tourist resort, in which the trade has perfectly adapted to be able to satisfy the needs of the visitors. If you go along the streets you’ll find all sorts of specialized shops, offering a great variety of articles. Among them, it won’t be difficult for you to find that particular present you’re looking for.
Nature: The walking paths around Tossa allow you to make some excursions that aren’t too long, and that you can do in one morning, one afternoon or, in some cases, in one day. These walks through the massif will take you to discover the natural places that make of Tossa a unique spot on the Costa Brava.
Weather: Tossa de Mar enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate.
Places to visit: Sa Riera Park
In the village of Tossa de Mar, at only 800 m from the centre, you can walk through a fantastic park and enjoy different natural sceneries:
* Mediterranean forest, with a holm-oak wood consisting of mature trees.
*Riverbank forest, consisting of trees that loose their leaves.
* Lake with regenerated water, a reserve for several species of animals and plants.
You can also visit the Massif of Cadiretes
witch is a nature and wildlife reserve situated on the coast of the province Girona. It extends over almost the totality of Tossa’s boundary and part of the nearby boundaries of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Sta. Cristina d’Aro, Llagostera, Vidreres and Lloret. It’s a mountainous granitic territory between the sea and the plane of the area known as La Selva.
Famous Monuments: The Sanctuary of “Sant Grau” is situated, going to Sant Feliu de Guíxols, at 16 km.
The Hospital of Sant Miguel founded in 1773 as a hospital for the poor by Tomás Vidal i Rey.

The Roman villa considered as one of the most important and interesting rural villas in stage of excavation along the Mediterranean coast of the Tarraconense province.
Museums: The Municipal Museum occupies the ancient governor's house, the most important building in the walled enceinte of the Vila Vella. It compiles an important collection of modern art, with works of the national and international artists who frequented Tossa during the thirties, and also anterior and posterior works.
Gastronomy: Tossa has a very varied culinary offer. There is a restaurant for everyone! This may be due to the fact that many visitors come here for one day only.
