35 Km. from Málaga, on the road to Almería, Torre del Mar is today one of the most famous torurist resorts in the Costa del Sol.Torre del Mar lies in the heart of the Axarquia and is a modern small spa town and the administrative centre for the region. The townscape is a mixture of large buildings, numerous businesses and apartment houses.
A minute of History: This town also has its history, as shown by the Phoenician and Carthaginian Tombs which have been found at the mouth of the river Velez. These burials reinforce the theory of the old city of Mainake having been set here.
General Information: The city promenade has lots of space for walking and skating.
At the eastern end there are many music bars which are open into the early hours of the morning. Traders also use the promenade to sell a variety of goods. In the summertime the beach is full of sun-worshipping holiday-makers as far as the eye can see.
Beaches: The long beaches attract a lot of tourists. Not only north Europeans but also many Spaniards come to Torre del Mar.
Events: Torre del Mar gives the visitor a wonderful show of light with the explosion of the fireworks during its typical procession of the Virgen del Carmen in the sea, on the 16th. July, and that in honour of Santiago from the 23rd to the 26th of July.
Leisure: Its four km. of golden sand offer all the necessary ingredients to spend some unforgettable days: hotels, restaurants, bars at the beach, discos, sport boats for rent, sport-fishing port with a daily auction of fresh fish; or, in case you don't fancy the sea, you can enjoy yourself at the aquatic park " Aqua Velis "
Gastronomy: Within its rich gastronomy, it offers us dishes like the Holy Week ajo-blanco, the sopas cachorreñas, tortas, fried fish baked sardines, etc.
