Soldeu is a compact and attractive village, with most of the buildings constructed in traditional Andorran stone. It lies in an open sunny position surrounded by green wooded slopes and all the hotels are within easy reach of the lifts and other facilities. The gondola, which leaves from the Sport Village hotel, gives quick access to the paths and activities in the surrounding area.
Location:
In the NE of the principality, 10 mls NE of Andorra la Vella. 120 mls S of Toulouse airport (France), 160 mls N of Barcelona airport (Spain).
Strung out along the main road, slightly elevated from a narrow gorge, with mountains set fairly well back.
General Information:
The Soldeu ski area has a typically Spanish flavour, with an accent on fun, value-for-money and high-quality skiing. Ideal for both beginners and intermediates. Wide, confidence boosting runs abound, perfect for getting the muscles into shape before tackling some of the longer, more testing, tree-lined slopes. Soldeu is great for families with an excellent ski school and ski kindergarten.
Getting Around:
Buses link the 2 lift stations; a separate service makes daily runs to Andorra la Vella and Pas de la Casa on the French frontier.
Resort Suitability:
One of the most popular Andorran resorts for British visitors, catering predominantly to the 20 to 30 age group. Much of the ambience and entertainment is heavily British-orientated. Something for the full range of skiing abilities.
Entertainment:
Daytime: limited activities make it less than ideal for nonskiers.
Nightlife: a few loud music bars/discos.
Sports:
Excellent conditions prevail during normal winter snowfall, with predominantly N-facing slopes and ample altitude ensuring a long season and virtual snow certainty when other resorts may be suffering.
Gastronomy:
Mainly confined to hotels, offering a range of familiar dishes and menus with an understandable French influence.
