Sarria is a residential area of Barcelona, close to Tibidabo which is to the north-west of the city centre. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the city centre. Sarria combines quaint, cobbled streets with modern areas with excellent public transport links. Slightly less tourist traffic than the central areas of Barcelona, but worth exploring.
Museums: Young scientific minds work overtime in this new and ever-more-interactive science museum, just below Tibidabo. Educational and fun, packed with information on rainforests and the natural world. Also gives children info and advice on how to be environmentally friendly. Open Tuesday - Sunday 10:00 until 19:00. Nearest metro station is: Avinguda de Tibidabo.
Worth a visit: Filmoteca de la Generalitat is a library offering a wide range of themes, from classics to the latest releases. All its films are shown in their original language and sometimes have Catalan or Spanish subtitles. It also has films for children. Books of twenty discounted tickets are available.
Nightlife: A developing area for night life, The East-West bar is a lounge bar, terrace and restaurant and also an Internet café.
Enjoy a coffee or a tea or treat yourself to the inspired menu of French and international cuisine, served non-stop from midday until dawn.
Every Tuesday, Single Party invites the public to meet their other half, from 20:30 to 23:30. There is a "dating menu".
On Wednesday, Sushi Party from 20:30 until 23:30. A sushi platter, California rolls and makis plus a glass of wine (10 euros).
Afterwork, each Thursday from 20:30 is a happy hour that invites the public to unplug from daily stress and worries.
On Sundays, a North American brunch is served between 13:00 until 20:00.
Gastronomy:
Bar Tomás, on the corner of Jaume Piquet, is a Barcelona institution, home of the finest potatoes in town. Order the famous doble mixta of potatoes with allioli and hot sauce with which draft beer (ask for a caña) is the perfect partner. Metro station: Sarrià.
