San Blas is an area to the east of Madrid city centre and takes approximately 20-30 minutes to reach the heart of Madrid. Fewer attractions than the centre of the city but with good transport links.
Getting Around: The area is served by line 7, nearest metro station is San Blas.
Attractions: The Madrid Planetarium is a centre which is a great place for kids and those interested in astronomy and physics. The main attraction is the projection room, showing films and light shows about different space related topics. Parque Tierno Galván, nearest metro Méndez Álvaro.
Museums: You can see the history of firefighting in Spain since its very beginnings at the Museo de los Bomberos (firefighters museum). You'll see examples of old horse-drawn carriages (1898) and the first motor-drawn fire engines (1911) as well as a wide selection of pumps and water-propulsion systems that have been used to extinguish fires through the years. Children can "enroll" in with the firefighters by filling out a form.
