The Barcelona Barri Gotic area is also known as the Gothic Quarter and is the area in which the old town of Barcelona is situated. Attractive and slightly mysterious cobbled streets and old buildings take you on a winding journey through the city centre, full of interesting boutiques and bars.
Picasso lived and worked in Barri Gotic from 1895 to 1904 and Joan Miró was born and lived here during his youth. Just to the right of Las Ramblas, the Gothic Quarter is best explored on foot.
A minute of History: Picasso lived and worked in the Gothic Quarter from 1895 to 1904 and Joan Miró was born and lived here during his younger years.
Places to visit: Parroquia de Sant Jaume is located in Calle Ferrán, one of the main streets of the Gothic Quarter, and is suitably Gothic in style and architecture. Built at the end of the 19th century, on the site of the main synagogue in Barcelona. The Gothic altar is the old high altar of the cathedral, which was moved to this church in 1970.
Nightlife: Moog is a small club dedicated to techno and house music, open every day of the week.
Over the years DJ's like Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, Cajmere, John Acquaviva, Richie Hawtin, Lady B, Mixmaster Morris and DJ P. Pulsinger visited this club.
The Moog also supports the local scene by programming Spanish DJ's like DJ Robert X, DJ Juan B, DJ Olmos and Omar.
Every night in Villarosa: disco music of the 70's and 80's starting at 01:00
Don't miss the experience!!!
Octopussy is a popular outdoor club conveniently covered in glass in winter. The dance music is an excellent mix of styles, one of the best in town. If you enjoy going out at night, this is the place for you. The place is worth just checking out. The fantastic terrace is its biggest attraction and it's open both in summer and winter (with heating inside and out). There is no cover charge but make sure you dress to impress.
Gastronomy: The Bagel Shop is a very original place with a New York feel, specialising in (you guessed it) bagels of all types and more types of fillings than you can think of. In addition you can find a great variety of soups, salads and cakes and the typically american apple pie. Slowly winning over the locals, and take-away is also available.
Gelateria Xocolateria Santa Clara is hidden in a corner of Plaça Sant Jaume, next to the Generalitat (city hall). Their speciality is Spanish "chocolate con churros" - thick hot chocolate with fritters to dip in...too sinful for words!
Shojiro on Calle Ros de Olano specialises in an interesting fusion between Japanese and European cuisine, and The La Rioja house (on Calle Pintor Fortuny) prepares excellent casseroles, a typical dish from the north of Spain.
