Great beaches. Picturesque walks. Peaceful resort.
Best for couples or families looking for a beach-based holiday in beautiful surroundings.
Facilities include a small selection of reasonably priced restaurants, bars and shops.
Famous for having one of the longest stretches of gently shelving beach on the Algarve. There's also a wonderful walk through pine woods that are scattered along the tops of the rugged red sandstone cliffs backing the beach.
Location: Praia da Falesia is an extremely quiet, 7 km long beach a few kilometres east of Albufeira, and about half way to Vilamoura. It's not really a single holiday place, but an area made up of different places.
General Information: At the left end of the beach is Praia da Falesia's tiny centre, with very little night life, almost no activities on offer and with an altogether very relaxed atmosphere. From here, the beach stretches eastwards, with spectacular cliffs and fine sand. There are also a number of good golf courses in the area.
Resort Suitability: If you choose Praia da Falesia, you can be pretty sure you'll have some peaceful days.Praia da Falesia is perhaps best suited for mature adults, but also families with young children who want to escape the normal tourist traffic.
Attractions: you hire a car (or take the bus) you will be able to experience much more of what the Algarve has to offer. What about a trip up the Monchique mountains with their almond, orange and olive groves and fresh air filled with the aroma of eucalyptus? By car, you can also reach the "world's end", Cabo Sao Vicente, Europe's most south westerly point. In the area surrounding Praia da Falesia you will find a few aqua parks and a combined zoo/marineland and aqua park, Zoomarine. All of these facilities have their own return bus service. You should also try to find time for an excursion to Lisbon. It takes a few hours to drive there, but it's well worth the effort.
Leisure: The small populated area of Praia da Falesia has a few restaurants, cafes and bars. There is a further selection in the neighbouring islands of Olhos dí Agua and Acoteias (which has some excellent restaurants), where you will also find banks and shops etc. Both of these places are within walking distance. If you want a bit more "action", you need to take the bus or a taxi to Albufeira. For some serious shoppping we recommend the region's capital, Faro, which is a half hour drive away.
