Dejvice is an upmarket area about 2 kilometres north-west of the city centre and 5 kilometres east of Ruzyně airport, located in Prague 6. Visitors are surrounded by peaceful surroundings and plenty of greenery; a large part of Dejvice is covered by the picturesque Přirodni Park árka-Lysolaje. The area has good links with all parts of Prague by underground, bus and tram lines.
General Information: Dejvice is a popular choice with expats, and has a very good variety of restaurants, bars and shops. The area is also home to many foriegn embassies and sports venues. The area is considered to be very safe and a good choice for families.
Getting Around: Dejvice is on metro line A and takes approximately 10 minutes to reach the city centre.
Famous Monuments: Certainly one of the strangest buildings in Prague, the Hvezda Summer Pavilion was built in the shape of a six-pointed star. There are small permanent displays on the 16th-century structure itself and on the Battle of Bila Hora, which took place nearby in November 1620. The upstairs hall is sometimes used for exhibitions about Czech Literature. The ground floor features amazingly sculpted stucco ceilings dating from the 1550s.
Museums: The Ecotechnological Museum is located in this area, and is housed in an old sewage works. The museum was built at the end of the 19th century and designed by an English architect, W.H. Lindsey.
