Very central area, just to the east of Puerta del Sol with a good selection of restaurants and nightlife, many of Madrid's major sights and sounds are within walking distance or a quick metro ride.

Location:
Several metro stations to choose from in this area including Colón and Banco de España.

Attractions:
Play all day on the rides at the Parque de Attracciones, a great fun park! Find a day full of excitement as you try out all the rides here. There are pony rides, a carousel, a maze, and adventures to "space" and the "jungle." Great fun to keep little ones entertained. Nearest metro is Moncloa. Casa de Campo, Madrid.

Places to visit:
Zoo Aquarium de la casa de campo is a great day out for the family, with over 3,000 animals from five different continents on display. Take your kids to the petting zoo so they can get close to friendly, tamer animals. There is a 520,000 gallon aquarium filled with tropical fish, as well as a tank of dolphins and a house for parrots.

Alternative Activities:
See Madrid from a bird's eye view on the Teleférico. This cable car will carry you high above the parks and buildings of the city and on a clear day you even get a good view of the Royal Palace. Located on Paseo del Pintor Rosales.

Nightlife:
Ryscal 11 is pure, unadulterated Spanish disco. Entertaining a young crowd, its always popular and plays a good mix of sounds. Calle Marque's de Riscal, 11. Arena is a former movie cinema and now one of the hottest dance clubs in Madrid. Arena boasts the city's largest dance floor, and visitors are welcomed to come early and stay late. The club also hosts many famous partys. Calle de la Princesa, 1. Cafe Gijon may be Madrid's most famous cafe-bar. It has hosted many of the city's high-ranking discussion groups for more than a century.

Gastronomy:
Casa Valencia specializes in paella, a range of delicious rice entrees, and cuisine that carries true Mediterranean flair. A popular restaurant, reservations are recommended. Paseo del Pintor Rosales, 58. Calle Princesa is a cosy tapas bar, always filled with business executives, locals, and tourists, and this restaurant attracts them all. La Princesita, which is housed in a long, narrow bar, is a great tapas choice. The ambience is crowded and loud, and the decor features azulejo tiles. Outdoor seating is available.
