Paseo de la Castellana is one of Madrid’s main highways, running more or less north – south into the heart of the city. Traffic travels at almost frightening speeds, but thankfully the road was designed so that pedestrians can stroll along the green, tree lined sidewalks.
It is an exciting area, full of bars, sculptures and life!
Location: One of Madrid's main arteries, the nearest metro station is Colón.
Shopping: Some of the most luxurious boutiques can be found near this zone (walking distance) in Calle Serrano, such as Chanel and Loewe. You may even spot the odd celebrity indulging in some retail therapy.
Attractions: The Gate of Europe, at the top of the Castellana, are two spectacular towers welcoming the visitor to the city through the Castellana, and is the entrance to the "Wall Street" of Madrid.
Plaza de los Cibeles, with a statue surrounded by fountains, is in front of the huge Telecommunications building and the Bank of Spain, the National Library, the tall statue of Columbus (Colón in Spanish) on the Plaza de Colón.
