Close to Andorra la Vella (the duty-free shopping paradise) lies the town of Canillo. The past few years have seen substantial investment in new hotels and lift infrastructure and Canillo is now a world class skiing destination. The new Gondola connects Canillo with the Soldeu/El Tarter ski area. Whether it is skiing, drinking, shopping or adventure you're looking for, Canillo has it.
General Information: Canillo is being developed for individual tourism and has established a club concept that limits the number of skiers on their section of the mountain. A massive and modern base lodge/gondola station is the portal for this section of the resort. The slopes of Canillo can also be reached from the main Soldeu-El Tarter ski area via a drag lift. Canillo has newly cut swooping trails slicing through thick forests and provides an excellent place to ski when visibility is poor.
Entertainment: After an active day on the slopes, there are plenty of unassuming pubs with great music, great value drinks and a lively atmosphere to relax and recover in! For those of you looking for something a bit more energetic there is Andorra's Palau de Gel (Ice Palace), an airy glass-walled sports complex offering a variety of indoor sports and host to one of Europe's largest ice rinks. As with most Andorran resorts the tax-free shopping is a major attraction and Canillo is only 10 minutes from Andorra la Vella.
Sports: Canillo has a something for every skier and boarder! The new Gondola to Forn provides access to the the Soldeu/El Tarter ski area via a nice long blue run. Beginners have an excellent learning area with its own ski school and magic carpet near the main restaurants. Intermediates have the run of the entire mountain with some exciting off-piste areas and experts will enjoy the challenging blacks. With the launch of GrandValira (the Soldeu/El Tarter-Pas de la Casa Grau-Roig link), skiers and boarders now have access to twice as much piste!
