Situated 1.5 kilometres south of Magalluf, Cala Vinas makes a good alternative for families who want to avoid the bustle of the bigger resorts such as Magalluf and Palma Nova, but still have access to their facilities, shops and nightlife.
General Information: The resort is set around a small cove beach, where pedalos, sunshades and loungers can be hired. The fine, gently shelving sand is safe for children, and there are several other small beaches close by.
Where to go: Cala Vinas is situated on the Cala Figuera headland, and you can drive through the pine forests to the cliffs for sweeping views over Palma Bay. Another road leads to Portals Vells, a beautiful isolated beach which can gets quite crowded in summer. There is a large water park in nearby Magalluf, and the attractions of Palma Nova and Palma are within easy access.
Facilities: This is really a place for a relaxing family holiday rather than anything particularly active, though water sports are available in Magalluf and there are tennis and golf clubs nearby.
Nightlife: Apart from a handful of restaurants and bars, most entertainment is based in the hotels. The nightlife of Magaluf is a short taxi ride away, as is Mallorca's only casino, which features gambling, dancing and dinner shows.
