Cosmopolitan: No better word describes the overall feeling of Brussels. Nearly one in three city residents is not Belgian, typically drawn there by business or government ties. So when you're sipping a hot chocolate at a sidewalk cafe (a delectable treat at any time of the year), you will undoubtedly see people from around the globe passing by.
General Information: But cosmopolitan also suggests a certain level of sophistication, and Brussels has it in abundance. Visitors can delight in fine museums and Michelin-starred restaurants (the city claims more of those than Paris), as well as some of the best classical music and opera in Europe. There are of course plenty of things to see, but your time is best spent soaking up the atmosphere.
Getting Around: Getting around Brussels' compact city centre is a breeze. One of the best things about the city is that almost everything is within easy walking distance. What's more, the public transportation system is inexpensive and easy to use - ideal for those who's feet have tired of the cobblestone streets.
Nightlife: Nightlife means fun and entertaiment at night: dance clubs, bars, parties, festivals, shows, restaurants, live music bands and all that. The idea is to go out and have good old-fashioned fun. All of this is possible in Brussels, with a fantastic choice of clubs, bars, restaurants, cafes & theatres.
Gastronomy: Wherever you go in Belgium you will find restaurants that lay great store in offering the customer the best in culinary delights, many of them being specialties of the regions themselves. The coastal restaurants are popular for their North Sea fish and shellfish dishes. Here, from the smallest cafe to the grandest restaurant, the 'fruits of the sea' are lovingly prepared in every way imaginable. Beef, pork and sheep are the most popular of meats in restaurants. With its excellent hunting, the Ardennes is able to offer succulent dishes such as wild boar, stag and roebuck when in season, although there is also poultry such as partridge, pheasant and quail to be sampled. Poultry, along with rabbit and hare are on menus throughout the country, in a wide variety of cooking styles.
