This is the coastal strip of the municipality enjoying a 9 kilometer stretch of attractive beaches and all the sporting and leisure possibilities of a busy resort town. A minute of History: In the 1950's, the possibility of exploiting tourism in the Costa del Sol started to be valued, and some investors acquired plots of land along the coast for the purpose of building the first hotels. It was the Hotel La Roca, which was soon followed by the construction of many others - the Siroco, Tritón, Riviera, Alay... As a result many first-class hotels were concentrated within a few metres of each other, converting Benalmádena into a distinctive location. At the same time, the municipality became aware of the possibilities this new industry could offer and decided to make a special effort to improve the area's town centres and leisure infrastructure.
Location: Benalmádena is located in the south of Europe, on the Mediterranean coast and in the centre of the Costa del Sol, one of the main tourist destinations in the world.
Its geography is conditioned by the sea and the mountains, which define its features and give it a very special character. In fact, life in Benalmádena revolves around these two elements.
Getting There:
Benalmádena is a very easily accessible tourist resort that can be reached from all over the world. The fact that it is only ten kilometres from Málaga’s Picasso International Airport is specially relevant. The town can also be reached by a four-lane highway and by train. There is also an excellent marina that is being enlarged in order to enable small cruise ships to dock.
Where to go: But the sea in Benalmadena is even more than the marine, as its beaches and coastline also offer many different types of activities. There are many companies and organisations that organise short cruises along the coast, teach diving, or organise sport fishing activities.

Events: Benalmádena is also culture. In the 1960s, the town decided to innovate, creating an independent film festival. Since then it has continued to enhance the cultural activities it organises.
