Alaro is located in the Raiguer district which is centrally located in the island, in a long corridor between the Tramuntana Mountains and the plains of Es Pla. It was built on an ancient Arab farmstead called Oloron.
A minute of History: Alaro Castle was a key site for Muslim resistance during the Catalan invasion by Jaime I in 1229. During the island's occupation by Alfonso the Liberal in 1285, the castle was once again was a refuge for men loyal to Jaime II.
