Welcome to the August edition of the XcapeWithUs Newsletter. Summer is now well and truly under way and with many people facing another month of trying to keep the kids entertained, we thought we would give you some ideas …

Holidaymakers are choosing to be eco-friendly this year and are staying close to home, so we have come up with some great alternative outings and weekend break destinations that will keep your children and bank balances happy.

		In the last edition we talked about Disneyland® Orlando but you don’t have to travel across the pond to see Mickey Mouse these days. Disneyland® Resort Paris has just reached its 15th Anniversary and is celebrating in true Disney Style. Not only are there new rides and shows to enjoy but until the 31st August the Disneyland® Resort Paris closes at 11pm and there are no less than two twilight spectaculars every evening after nightfall. Disney has introduced a “fastpass” system which will shorten your waiting time on the busiest rides, however, with the most popular rides (like Space Mountain) all the fast track tickets for the whole day can be gone by lunchtime so make sure you get your fastpass ticket first thing in the morning!

Getting to France is easy and inexpensive as there are numerous travel options available. With Euro star links from London and France’s home grown speed train (the TVG trains) travelling can be an adventure. Why not venture to La Rochelle and explore the hidden gem of Ile De Re, this is a little known local paradise where you will find a small flat island consisting of sand dunes and salt marshes just off the coast of La Rochelle. Measuring just 19 x 3 miles and with quiet cycle paths linking the whitewashed stone villages this is a haven for families as it offers many activities for children in a safe and unspoilt environment. Travelling time from London is just over 6 hours by train and with great deals on our hotels in La Rochelle it is a Summer getaway not to be missed.

Remember that when travelling by train, the high speed trains (TVG) require special supplementary fares even if you have a Eurail Pass (yes, this is how you spell it!), remember to budget this in to your expenses.

Staying in the UK is a popular option this year and the South West of England offers beautiful scenery, miles of coastline and some outstanding hotels, it also offers plenty to do for every age group and budget. The Eden Project in Cornwall is a great day out for everyone but if you need an extra reason to visit this forward thinking Biosphere then hurry there quickly to see the spectacular carnivorous Puya berteroniana plant which is in bloom for the first time in seven years! Why not indulge in a horticultural weekend and visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan in St Austell, renowned as one of the most mysterious estates in England you can get lost in these secret gardens and let your imagination and the kids run wild.
